Husband and I just finished our first mini babymoon, and it was delightful. Several months ago we went to a fundraiser for my sister’s ministry – Let Me Be Ministries, and we bid on and won an evening out in our city. A stay at a nice downtown hotel, a voucher for dinner, limo service, and 2 museum tickets were included in this package. We ended up using the hotel stay and dinner voucher – we’ll save the other stuff for later.
It’s nice to be a tourist in your own city. You do things you wouldn’t normally do, and (thanks to my parents and sister) we had a kid free date night. See, we couldn’t really do a babymoon with Vinny because, as it is with most adoptions, one day you don’t have a kid, the next day you do. It’s hard to plan a specific ‘before the baby’ vacation when you don’t know if it will be 3 years, 3 months, 3 weeks, or 3 days before the baby is coming.
We both definitely missed our little guy like crazy, but keeping a good relationship with your spouse is important, and I can’t tell you the last time Husband and I had a real date night. It was also nice to have time to simply relax. In the morning we lounged around and watched tv…this will never happen again for the next (at least) 15 years, so we took full advantage!!
Now we’re happy to be back with our baby and our normal life, but I recommend date nights every once in awhile if you can. It makes you appreciate your everyday life and your spouse much more.
Enjoy some pictures from our lovely overnight.
